From May 2023, WhatsApp added the ability for a user to edit text based messages that they had sent to others.
When the message is sent, even after receipt by the other party, who can also read it, it is possible to edit typing errors or completely change the entire message up to 15 minutes from sending it. When the message is edited, it is updated for any recipient and displays ‘edited’ next to the time stamp within the footer of the message.
The WhatsApp edit function does not apply to images, only text based messages, although images can be deleted from the chat in the same way as standard messages.
