Cell Site Analysis and Mapping
Our cell site analysis and call data record investigations are conducted by our mobile phone forensic expert witness team within criminal cases and civil proceedings and investigations throughout the UK.
An Explanation of Cell Site Analysis
Cell Site Analysis allows for the identification of the location of a mobile phone through call data record examination when a call, text message or mobile data is made or received. This evidence can be used within legal cases where the location of an individual is required.
The Uses of Cell Site Analysis and Call Data Record Investigation
Cell Site Analysis is commonly used by law enforcement agencies to confirm that a suspect was in an area during the time in which a crime was committed.
Increasingly cell site analysis evidence is used for proving or disproving alibis, demonstrating ‘associations’ or ‘conspiracies’, confirming a victim’s movements and geographically ‘placing’ suspects at the scene of a crime.
Every time a mobile phone is used, the event is recorded.
How Cell Site Analysis Works
Using data from the mobile phone provider, Athena Forensics’ specialists are able to use the call data records to map the locations of the mobile phone at or around specific times and events and determine the areas in which a phone has been used.
The Call Data Records include large amounts of information including the date and time of a call or message, the duration of the call, the number who made the call or sent the message and the number of the recipient.
The records can also include the cell ID used to make or receive the call or send the message, which can be used to identify the location of the handset at the time and it can even contain information to identify the specific phone used at the time.
Through this, the call data records can be used to identify the whereabouts of a phone at a given time through cell site analysis, to trace its movements over a period or to prove whether or not a specific call or message had been made at a particular time using a particular phone or to demonstrate a pattern of activity or communication between parties.
The information provided can be used as evidence within any court proceedings where the location of the individual or to establish a relationship between individuals and can be presented in court by our Mobile Phone Forensic Expert Witnesses.
