Our team have a vast amount of experience in the investigation of computer company crime and breaches in security and work together with company directors, HR departments, Internal/External Auditors and Solicitors and have conducted thousands of digital forensic investigations in a confidential, tactful and courteous manner.
Examples of the types of cases that we frequently deal with are available on our previous investigations page.
Our computer and mobile phone experts are able to complete an examination and investigation of all relevant digital evidence to the necessary standard to prevent data from being compromised or to prevent legal challenge, whether it is to be used for internal disciplinary procedures or for external reporting.
What will the Investigation Involve?
Initially we provide a free no-obligation consultation in order to assess the next steps and to provide you with a bespoke quotation. Any information you provide will be dealt with in strict confidence regardless of whether we are instructed or not.
As part of the corporate investigation we take a three-step approach:
- Secure and collect all tangible evidence involved in the investigation in a manner consistent with the rules of evidence to ensure admissibility
- Conduct an examination of the evidence, and
- Provide a clear, concise and detailed written report that is supported by expert witness testimony as part of any legal proceedings
The Corporate Investigation Process
Nearly all of a company’s information is created and managed electronically, yet typically only a third of that information is committed to paper.
The majority of digital forensic investigations, therefore, require careful searches of electronic information rather than following a paper trail.
Digital forensics allows our experts to uncover more of the facts, support otherwise unsubstantiated information, confirm or refute allegations, and analyse competing theories in relation to those facts.
It involves identifying, collecting, analysing large numbers of data. But without the correct presentation or codification of data, it may not be admissible in a legal proceeding.
Typically the corporate investigation would involve a search of live and deleted data for:
- Emails
- Documents and files that may be hidden, password protected, or encrypted
- Files that have been generated from the operating system (i.e., enhanced metafiles)
- Databases of all user input and activity
- Recently opened, accessed, created or deleted files, and
- Online activities, including Internet banking transactions.
Our forensic experts use sophisticated tools to conduct a thorough and accurate examination. There’s really nowhere to hide data anymore, and any attempts to do so merely create additional evidence pointing toward an attempted cover-up.
The initial response to any such incident is crucial in these types of investigation and it is vital that a trained digital forensic expert is consulted immediately.
Internal IT departments, while extremely knowledgeable, are not normally trained in digital forensic techniques and may not have the relevant accreditation’s or expertise to carry out a digital forensic examination.
