On January 4th 2023, it was reported by The Washington Post that 211 unique email addresses relating to Twitter accounts had been published onto underground hacker forums.
The email addresses that had been compromised have been added to the database https://haveibeenpwned.com that allows users to assess whether their email address had been involved in a data breach.

It was reported that, from June 2021 to January 2022 there was a flaw within the programming interface of Twitter that enabled an attacker to provide contact information, such as an email address, and to receive the information relating to that account including phone numbers and other accounts using the same email address through the scraping process via the API flaw.
It is believed that the data that has been obtained may allow anonymous users to be identified via their own email address that was not previously publicly available or make the accounts involved vulnerable to phishing attacks and identity theft.
It is believed that the data was collected during 2021 by hackers via a flaw in Twitters systems. The flaw is reported to have been fixed by Twitter in 2022 following another incident that involved the breach of information relating to 5.4 million Twitter accounts in July 2022.
